What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Your uterus is expanding above your pelvis now. Now that you are becoming visibly pregnant, your pregnancy is probably feeling much more real to you and your partner. You may be able to feel the top of your uterus now, located about a hands width below your belly button.

Your breasts may be producing colostrum now. You may occasionally notice wetness on your clothes near your nipples. This is normal and is colostrum that has leaked from the breast.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is 4- 4 ½ inches long. It has been 13 weeks since conception.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 15 Weeks?

You may want to know….What does a baby look like at 15 weeks? Click here for video

Around this time the rooting reflex comes in for breast feeding. Click to see video

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby is continuing to develop muscle and bones. Your baby’s facial muscles are developing and they are beginning to use them, wincing, grimacing, and moving the face. The bones are beginning to harden.

The organs are continuing to develop. The intestines are moving farther into the body and the liver has begun to secrete bile.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

You may be starting to feel uncomfortable sometimes when you are trying to sleep. As your uterus grows it places pressure on the arteries and veins which lead to your legs. Sleeping on your back places extra pressure on these arteries which also supply blood to your baby.

You want to avoid lying on your back. Side sleeping is the recommended sleeping position once you are in your second trimester and through the remainder of your pregnancy.

Lying on your stomach can place extra pressure on your uterus which is also not recommended.

If you find that you cannot get comfortable, try placing pillows between your legs and behind your back. There are also some great pregnancy pillows available, which can be a very helpful and worthwhile investment.
