What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Can you believe it? You have made it half way through your pregnancy! Your entire pregnancy lasts 40 weeks.

The top of your uterus should now be about the same level as your navel. Your healthcare provider will be measuring the size of your uterus at each appointment. It should be growing about ½ inch per week from now until the end of your pregnancy.

Your lung capacity is continuing to increase. Your lungs are breathing up to 40 percent more air than they did before you were pregnant. You may be breathing at a faster rate than before. Some women feel some shortness of breath. This is due to both increased respiration and pressure from your growing baby and breasts.

By now you have most likely begun to feel your baby’s movements.

Your baby is about 6 inches long from crown to rump, and about 9-10 inches long from head to toe. It weighs approximately 9 ounces.

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby’s skin is thickening and the layers of skin are developing. Your baby is beginning to develop eye motion.

Myelin is beginning to develop in the brain. Myelin is a protective sheath that insulates the nerves and nervous system. Myelin is comprised of 80% fat and 20% protein. The development of this protective layer will continue through the first years of your baby’s life.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

You may want to consider supplementing your diet with Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are important for your baby’s brain development.
