What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Your uterus is about 2 ½ inches above your navel now. You have on average probably gained between 16 and 22 pounds.

Your uterus and your baby are growing larger. As this occurs, discomforts such as back pain, pelvic pain, leg cramps, and headaches can become more challenging.

Your lung capacity is continuing to increase.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 9 ½ inches from crown to rump and weighs nearly 2 pounds.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 26 Weeks? - Video

This video of a fetus that’s around 26 weeks …
Video of baby in the womb

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby’s ears and eyes are completely formed now. The inner ear has completely developed, and will help your baby feel balance. It will also help your baby orient to which direction they are in inside the womb (sideways, right side up, or upside down).

Your baby’s eyebrows and eyelashes are formed and the hair on its head is growing and getting thicker.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

Sleeping may be getting markedly less comfortable now. You should not sleep on your back, as doing so places pressure on a major artery and cuts off blood flow.

Try sleeping on your left side. Pillows are very helpful, use lots of them. A pillow between your knees can really take pressure off of the back. There are some great pregnancy pillows that can help you rest more comfortably, or try a body pillow.

What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Your uterus has reached the size of a soccer ball. Your intestines and organs are getting well squeezed. This can cause you to have heart burn and constipation.

As weight increases and the belly gets larger, about ¼ of women develop hemorrhoids.

Your blood pressure should be beginning to return to normal, pre-pregnancy levels.

Your breasts are continuing to grow. You may notice that the Montgomery’s tubercles, the little bumpy skin surrounding your areola are getting larger also. Your body is continuing to prepare for breast feeding. When your baby is born and begins to breastfeed, these bumps will secrete oils to moisturize your skin.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 11 ½ inches long from head to toe or 8 ¾ inches from crown to rump and weighs about 1 ½ pounds.

Your baby’s hands and fingers, as well as fingernails, are fully developed now. It is able to make a fist and grasp onto different body parts or structures inside your uterus.

It may be possible to listen to your baby’s heartbeat with just a stethoscope, or your partner may be able to hear it by pressing his ear against your abdomen.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

Remember that before taking any cold, allergy, or herbal medicines you should consult with your doctor. Many medications and herbal medicines are not safe for your growing baby.

What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Your uterus is about 2 inches above your belly button.

You may be experiencing heartburn, constipation, indigestion, or gas pain. Your uterus is squeezing on your intestines, leaving them less room to perform their usual tasks. Additionally, your muscles in your body, including those in your digestive tract, are relaxing due to hormone production. This causes your digestion to slow down, souring your stomach and allowing you to become constipated.

If you are having heartburn, try to eat smaller more frequent meals. If you are constipated, try increasing your fiber intake and make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 8 ½ inches long from crown to rump and weighs about 1 ¼ pounds.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 24 Weeks? - Video

What a baby looks like in the womb at 6 months (22 weeks since conception). Click here to see

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby’s skin is red, wrinkled, and translucent still. Blood vessels and bone are visible through the skin. It will continue to create subcutaneous fat, which when complete will eliminate the translucency.

Your baby’s vocal cords are functioning. Its eyes are moving and engage in rapid eye movements, the activity that is associated with dreaming.

Your baby is becoming more coordinated with grasping of the hands and pedaling of the legs. You may feel your baby having hiccups.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

You may begin to experience itching in your abdomen as your belly stretches. Try using moisturizing lotion, Vitamin E, or pregnancy creams. Make sure you are getting plenty of water each day. Keeping the skin well hydrated can minimize itching and stretch marks. Gentle stretching to the skin can also possibly help alleviate some itching and stretch marks, helping keep the skin less taught. You can read about this in the book Pregnancy Pain Relief.

What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Fetus at 14 Weeks

Congratulations! You are now in your second trimester! Many people call this the honeymoon trimester because it is likely to be the easiest, most comfortable phase of your pregnancy.

Your nausea is likely to be continuing to wane or even be a thing of the past. (A few unlucky ones may continue to experience nausea.) You are probably beginning to feel more energetic than you have been.

Your body is beginning to expand much more now. You are likely to begin needing maternity clothes. This varies from woman to woman. If this is not your first pregnancy, you are likely to be bigger and show earlier.

You may find that you are having heartburn or feeling constipated. The increase of hormones in the body causes your muscles to relax, including those in your digestive tract. This means that food stays in your stomach for a longer period of time.

About half of pregnant women experience heartburn, and at least half experience constipation during their pregnancy.

You may begin to experience an increase in vaginal discharge. This is normal and is your body’s way of trying to prevent infection. Vaginal discharge should be thin and white and mild smelling.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 3 ½ – 4 inches long. It has been 12 weeks since conception.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 14 Weeks?

Videos are showing fetus at 12 weeks since conception which is your Week 14.

Many want to know what does a human fetus look like at 14 weeks. Click here to view Video

By 12 weeks since conception, upper limb length has nearly reached its final proportion to body size. Click here to see video.

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby’s body is continuing to lengthen and grow. Its head is no longer so grossly overdeveloped in comparison to it’s body. The neck is continuing to lengthen.

The external genitalia are continuing to develop. The internal organs are becoming well-developed.

The first thin, transparent layer of skin is forming as are hair patterns.

Though you may not feel your baby’s movements yet, it is becoming more sensitive to touch and stimulus. If prodded through the abdomen, your baby is likely to squirm. Your baby is bending, flexing, and twisting its arms and legs, fingers and toes and becoming more aware of its surrounding space.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

Now is a good time to look into childbirth classes for yourself and your partner. Check out some different classes and get signed up. Also, you may want to start looking into pediatricians. Ask your friends, family or health care practitioner for recommendations.

As your uterus expands to accommodate your growing baby, the muscles and joints in your pelvis are stretching. These changes will make it easier to give birth to your baby. As these changes occur, your spine will start to take on a different curve, which can cause low back pain.

Make sure you are getting exercise. Swimming and walking are excellent exercises that can help keep your body looser and more comfortable as your spine adjusts. Simple techniques such as those in the book Pregnancy Pain Relief can also help ease discomforts.

At week 23 Your uterus is about 1 ½ inches above your belly button now. You have likely put on about 12-15 pounds since the beginning of your pregnancy.

What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Your uterus is about 1 ½ inches above your belly button now. You have likely put on about 12-15 pounds since the beginning of your pregnancy.

Your uterus is sitting on top of your bladder much more now and that is likely to mean more urinary urgency and possibly leakage of urine occasionally. This is normal.

Pregnancy causes the flow of urine to slow, due to the softening of muscle tone from the effect of hormones. This can also cause urinary urgency. This lower muscle tone can also make you vulnerable to urinary tract infections. Take special care to wipe from front to back. If you develop burning, pain, fever, and abdominal pain or back pain you may want to talk to your health care provider.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby measures about 8 inches from crown to rump and weighs about 1 pound.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 23 Weeks? - Video

It’s been 21 weeks since conception, here is an interesting video of a baby in the womb around 23 weeks along.

Another 4D video of the baby in the womb at 23 weeks. Click here to watch video

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby’s lungs are developing and getting ready to be able to breathe air. The lungs are creating a layer of surfactant, a material that will allow the air sacs to inflate easily without sticking together.

Your baby is beginning to make practice breathing motions, moving amniotic fluid in and out of the lungs.

Your baby is quite thin at this point and its skin is loose. As it continues to grow, it will develop fat beneath the skin, helping to fill it out.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

Making sure you drink plenty of fluids and stay well hydrated will help maintain your urinary tract health and prevent infections. It will also help to prevent constipation.

Regular exercise such as walking, swimming or prenatal yoga are wonderful to help keep your body feeling looser and more comfortable.

Are you remembering to do your Kegel exercises? Kegel exercises help tone the pelvic floor muscles and will help your body be more prepared for childbirth. They will also help you recover after delivery.

What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Can you believe it? You have made it half way through your pregnancy! Your entire pregnancy lasts 40 weeks.

The top of your uterus should now be about the same level as your navel. Your healthcare provider will be measuring the size of your uterus at each appointment. It should be growing about ½ inch per week from now until the end of your pregnancy.

Your lung capacity is continuing to increase. Your lungs are breathing up to 40 percent more air than they did before you were pregnant. You may be breathing at a faster rate than before. Some women feel some shortness of breath. This is due to both increased respiration and pressure from your growing baby and breasts.

By now you have most likely begun to feel your baby’s movements.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 20 Weeks?

This is a common request, so we have provided these images from the Photo Science Library.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 6 inches long from crown to rump, and about 9-10 inches long from head to toe. It weighs approximately 9 ounces.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 20 Weeks?

Look at video of what a fetus at 5 months looks like…Click here to watch.

Your baby’s skin is thickening and the layers of skin are developing. Your baby is beginning to develop eye motion.

Myelin is beginning to develop in the brain. Myelin is a protective sheath that insulates the nerves and nervous system. Myelin is comprised of 80% fat and 20% protein. The development of this protective layer will continue through the first years of your baby’s life.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

You may want to consider supplementing your diet with Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are important for your baby’s brain development.

Your belly and breasts are getting larger, your body seems to be expanding everywhere. Even your feet may be getting larger.

As your hormones work to soften the muscles in your body, you may find that your feet are getting wider or longer. Additionally, you may experience swelling in your feet during pregnancy, which can make your shoes feel snug.

You may be able to feel the top of your uterus. It will sit about ½ inch below your belly button now. You have probably gained somewhere between 8 and 14 pounds now. Your breasts alone have each increased on average by about 6 ½ ounces.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is between 5 and 6 inches long and weighs in at about 7 ounces. It has been 17 weeks since conception.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 19 Weeks?

To give you an idea of what a baby in the womb looks like at 19 weeks..Click here to watch and awesome video.

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby’s skin is developing a coating that is slippery, and fatty, called vernix. This forms a protective layer on your baby’s skin which will help keep it from becoming scratched or chapped.

Your baby may begin to startle from loud noises.

Your baby’s reproductive system is continuing to develop. If your baby is a girl, she will already have 6 million eggs formed in her ovaries.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

If you are experiencing dizziness, be sure that you shift positions slowly. Also, be sure to keep your blood sugar even by eating small frequent meals.

Eating smaller more frequent meals instead of three big meals will keep your blood sugar more balanced, as well as help prevent digestive upsets such as heartburn.

If you are experiencing sudden shooting pains in your legs, groin or pelvis, this may be sciatica or round ligament pain. Follow the links provided for some great tips on managing the discomfort.

What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Your belly is continuing to grow and likely most people can tell that you are pregnant.

This week or in the next couple of weeks you should be able to feel your baby moving, which is called quickening. At first it may feel light and fluttery, or like gas bubbles. You may be feeling them for a while before you begin to recognize that it is indeed your baby moving.

The circulation of blood in your body is increasing. Your body is continuing to produce more blood. Your blood is made up of two portions, fluid and red blood cells.

The extra blood in your body is comprised of primarily the fluid portion this month. Later, your body will produce red blood cells. It is important to make sure you are getting adequate intake of iron in order to help your body produce theses red blood cells. Otherwise, you may develop anemia.

As your circulatory system expands, your blood pressure may drop a little, which can cause dizziness, nausea, and fainting, especially when rising from a horizontal position. Increased blood flow in your nasal passages and gums can also lead to nasal congestion and bleeding gums.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 5 ½ inches long and weighs a little over 5 ounces. It has been 16 weeks since conception.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 18 Weeks?

Video showing what a baby (fetus) looks like at 18 weeks. -16 weeks since conception.

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby’s ears are functioning now and the neurological connections from the ear to the brain are now developed, allowing it to hear. Throughout the rest of your pregnancy, your baby will hear and process all the sounds around it. Your baby is beginning to get tuned into your voice and your partner’s voice, and at birth will recognize and be soothed by your voices. Video of the baby responding to sounds.

Your baby’s bones are beginning to harden, a process called ossification.

Your baby is beginning to develop a grasping reflex, grabbing hold of its hands, fingers, toes, and umbilical cord. Full strength of the grasping reflex will not be achieved for many more weeks.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

About half of all pregnant women develop back pain during their pregnancy. Hormones are loosening the joints of your body and pelvis. Your center of gravity is shifting forward with your growing abdomen. This causes the curve of your spine to change in order to compensate. You are standing and moving in new ways. This can result in back pain, neck pain and shoulder pain.

Take extra care in practicing good posture. Take frequent breaks (every half an hour or so) from sitting or standing. Practice proper bending techniques, bending with your knees and keeping your back straight. If you will be sitting for long periods of time, try placing a block beneath your feet for added support.

Regular practice of prenatal yoga can be helpful for back pain as can a regular exercise activity such as walking or swimming. Additionally, a technique such as that in the book, Pregnancy Pain Relief, can be valuable at alleviating discomforts in the back and elsewhere.

Your belly is continuing to expand and grow. As your uterus expands, it will begin to squish your other organs around, rearranging them a bit.

The placenta has fully formed now. Your body was expending a lot of energy making it. Now that it is complete you may find that you have quite a bit more energy.

On average, most women will have gained 5-10 pounds by this stage in their pregnancy.

You may be noticing changes in your skin tone. Most pregnant women, about 90% will experience skin darkening. You may experience some mild darkening of your skin on your face. You may notice a darkening of the white line that goes from your navel to your pubic hair. You may also experience darkening in your arm pits, nipples, navel, inner thighs and perineum.

Moles, freckles and skin blemishes may darken also. If you have changes in moles or have new moles develop during your pregnancy it is a good idea to have them checked by your doctor. Moles that appear during pregnancy are usually due to growth hormones in the body, and generally are not the types linked to skin cancer. However, it is always best to err on the side of caution and have them looked at.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 6 inches long. It weighs about 4 ounces. It has been 15 weeks since conception.

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 17 Weeks?

Here we answer the question – –15 weeks since conception. Video of fetus in the womb

Ultrasound video of a baby at 17 weeks (15 since conception) in the womb. Video Click here

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby is continuing to develop hair on its scalp and eyebrows. Your baby is also covered with a very fine layer of hair called lanugo over its whole body. Also a protective white substance, called vernix caseosa, now covers the fetus The eyes and ears are now in their permanent positions.

Your baby is developing brown fat under the skin. This is a fat that helps your baby stay warm after birth.

Your baby’s hearing is beginning to develop.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

You may begin experiencing sciatic nerve pain or round ligament pain. The sciatic nerve can cause pain in the legs. It can develop due to pressure on the nerve from your developing baby.

The round ligaments are attached to the uterus and the pelvis. During pregnancy they get stretched and pulled on. This can result in pain on one or both sides of your pelvis, hips and groin.

For both of these problems, try to make sure that you take frequent breaks from sitting or standing. Also, move slowly when transitioning from a sitting position to standing up. Changing positions after being in a position too long is a frequent trigger. Sometimes lying down for a short time can ease the discomfort.

In week 22 of your pregnancy your uterus is now about ¾ inch above your belly button. Many women find this to be a comfortable phase of pregnancy.

What is Happening Inside Your Body?

Your uterus is now about ¾ inch above your belly button. Many women find this to be a comfortable phase of pregnancy. Your belly is definitely growing, but isn’t so big that it gets in your way.

You are likely continuing to experience thin white vaginal discharge. Increased vaginal discharge is normal during pregnancy. If the discharge becomes yellow and foul smelling, or you have itching, redness and irritation in the vaginal area, it could indicate a yeast infection and you should contact your health care provider.

Sometimes around this week you may start to have Braxton-Hicks contractions. Braxton-Hicks contractions are not painful and feel like squeezing in your uterus, lower abdomen or groin. This is also called false labor and is your body’s way of preparing for labor and delivery.

How Big is Your Baby?

Your baby is about 7 ½ inches long from crown to rump and weighs between 13 ounces and 16 ounces (1 pound).

What Does a Fetus Look Like at 22 Weeks?

Here is a great video of a 4 D ultrasound…so cute…Click here to see the video.

How is Your Baby Developing?

Your baby looks just like a very tiny newborn now.

Your baby is developing taste buds on its tongue. Its brain is now processing the sense of touch and your baby is likely experimenting with it.

Your baby’s reproductive system is continuing to mature. If your baby is a boy, its testes are beginning to descend.

Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

You will want to start thinking about your delivery and organizing a birth plan. Taking the time to write a birth plan will help those attending to you at your baby’s birth know and understand your desires. This will help them to coordinate your birthing experience the way you would like.
